Topdog/Underdog
September 4 - 27, 2003
Bagley Wright Theater
Bursting with big ideas, Topdog/Underdog set fire to the Broadway stage and grabbed the Pulitzer Prize the day after it opened. This thrilling comic-drama of two street smart, con-artist brothers digs deep into the existential dilemmas of being African American and male in the United States. Their dizzying dance of brotherly love and hate keeps everyone on their toes. Parks creates a verbal equivalent of jazz-riffs while her director, George C. Wolfe (Bring in Da Noise, Bring in Da Funk and Angels in America ), stages the play with an amazing mix of sassy showmanship and harrowing brutality lauded by The New York Times as “a deeply theatrical experience.”
