It’s 1958, and famed abstract expressionist painter Mark Rothko has just been offered the biggest commission in the history of modern art: to create four murals for the Four Seasons restaurant at the stunning new Seagram building in New York. He hires a young assistant, Ken, to help mix the paint and complete the murals. Rothko and Ken work feverishly in his New York studio. As they work, they square off on some huge questions: What’s art? And who gets to decide anyway? And Ken begins to realize his answers to those questions are very different than his mentor’s.
