Seattle Rep’s New Works program is dedicated to finding and developing the next great plays and musicals for the American theater. We advance new work through commissions to playwrights, and through new play workshops and readings produced as part of The Other Season. Many of these projects culminate in world premiere productions on one of Seattle Rep’s stages. With your support, Seattle Rep helps them take new work from page to stage, supporting emerging voices and established playwrights through every step of the process.
Seattle Rep commissions new plays from both up-and-coming and nationally recognized playwrights. We bring new work from renowned dramatists to Seattle, while also positioning Seattle writers for a national audience.
The Other Season is Seattle Rep’s annual series of new play workshops and residencies, some of which are shared with our community through a public reading. This program helps us discover new plays by diverse voices and cultivate long-term relationships with artists, positioning us to become a national leader in new work. From rehearsal space to artistic feedback and the opportunity to hear their work read by professional actors in front of an audience, The Other Season offers playwrights a personalized menu of support.
