Voices of Resistencia: A Theatrical Tribute to Those Lost to Deportation

Sunday, March 3 at 5:30 p.m.

Poncho Forum

Join Seattle Rep and community partners, La Resistencia, UW’s Center for Human Rights, and Hinton Publishing, for a theatrical reading as we honor those lost to deportation in Seattle before the evening performance of Sanctuary City.

This theatrical reading will feature the stories of community members deported through King County’s airport, Boeing Field, over the past year. Each story is made possible by La Resistencia’s tireless support in the fight against detention and deportation.

Can't make it in person? Watch the livestream on Seattle Rep’s YouTube channel beginning at 5:30 p.m. here.

Behind The Scenes

UW students spent countless hours gathering these stories in Seattle, at the Northwest Detention Center, and through phone interviews with those who were forcibly removed from the United States. Hinton Publishing has contributed to the production of tonight's performance and will publish individual narratives in upcoming editions of the online publication Speak the Sojourner, as well as a comprehensive collection of all the stories in an upcoming book.

About Our Community Partners

La Resistencia

LaResistencia Group nxvbdx

La Resistencia is a grassroots organization based in Washington state and led by undocumented immigrants and people of color that have been oppressed by the immigration enforcement system working to end the detention of immigrants and stop deportations.

Originally founded in March 7, 2014 to support a hunger strike launched by over 1,200 people detained in Tacoma to protest their confinement, La Resistencia began under the umbrella of the national #Not1More campaign as “NWDC Resistance.” Today, La Resistencia is led by the experts that know the system better than anyone, those that have been detained or have had relatives in deportation proceedings. La Resistencia supports and engages with people detained at the Northwest Detention Center who organize for their own survival and protest against the detention and deportation regime. La Resistencia is a grassroots immigrant-led group that organizes across the prison barrier with the goal to shut down the Northwest Detention Center (NWDC) and to end all detentions and deportations in Washington state.

Hinton is a partnership imprint of VertVolta, serving all of the Pacific Northwest (and beyond). Hinton elevates the voices, work, and talents of authors from communities that have historically faced disadvantage, disregard, and marginalization. Their mission is to uplift and resurface work that inspires, fosters belonging, challenges convention, stimulates thought, provokes action, and entertains while informing. Hinton recognizes the immense power stories hold to transform. It’s a power they wish to broaden to those who have historically been excluded by the wider publishing industry.
