World Premiere Musical
Jul. 30 – Sept. 6, 2026
Bagley Wright Theater
Two unlikely heroes. One unforgettable friendship.
From the Tony Award-winning producers of Come From Away, this world premiere musical based on the beloved novel tells a coming-of-age story of friendship, courage, and growing up.
Maxwell Kane and Kevin “Freak” Avery feel like they don’t fit in—until they find each other. Armed with big imaginations, sharp humor, and rebellious spirit, the teens become “Freak The Mighty,” a duo ready to take on the world. What starts as an unlikely friendship becomes a bond that transforms their community forever.
Told with warmth and wonder, this heartfelt musical captures what it means to be young and different; when friendships are everything and the world is both scary and full of possibility. Set in the early 90s, it’s a story to experience with loved ones of all ages—one that will have you laughing one moment, tearing up the next, and talking all the way home.
Charmingly funny and full of heart, this must-see world premiere celebrates resilience, friendship, and the bonds that shape our lives.
