Building on the success of Young Rep's productions of The Outsiders and Lost Girl, the Young Rep Winter Intensive expands the program's legacy of youth-centered storytelling into the holiday season with a full production of The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson.

This beloved holiday classic offers young performers the opportunity to explore ensemble-driven comedy while engaging with themes of empathy, belonging, and community. Designed for artists ready to deepen their craft, the program combines rigorous rehearsal, collaborative learning, and performance experience in a professional theater environment, culminating in a festive and meaningful production for live audiences. The production will feature approximately 35 performers, ages 8–20.

Auditions: Sept. 9 or 10 (Ages 13–20 at Seattle Rep) and Sept. 17 or 18 (Ages 8–12 at Seattle Children's Theatre). Please see our Auditions page for more information. There is no cost to audition, but participants must sign up in advance.

Rehearsals: Oct. 6–Dec. 7, 2026 – Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 4:30–7:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m.–1 p.m. at Seattle Rep

Performances: Eight shows from Dec. 11–20 (Dec. 11, 12, 18 & 19 at 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 12, 13, 19 & 20 at 2 p.m.) on Seattle Rep's Leo K. stage

Tuition (once cast): Tuition scholarships are available and we encourage all to audition!

What is the Young Rep Production Intensive?

In Seattle Rep's Young Rep Production Intensives, participants work with professional directors and designers to build acting technique, ensemble skills, and performance polish, culminating in fully produced performances on Seattle Rep's professional Leo K. stage.

  • The Summer Young Rep Production Intensive is a 5-week immersive theater training and performance program for young actors ages 13–20, culminating in a fully produced staging of Kimberly Belflower's Lost Girl on Seattle Rep's Leo K. stage in Aug. 2026.

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever (Winter 2026)

  • The Winter Young Rep Production Intensive rehearsals will take place over a ten-week period beginning Oct. 6, 2026 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 4:30–7:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m.–1 p.m., culminating in eight performances of Barbara Robinson's beloved holiday classic on the Leo K. stage from Dec. 8–20, 2026.
  • Auditions will be announced in late July 2026 and be held in early Sept. 2026.

Who is eligible to audition?

All youth ages 13–20 of any gender identity are welcome and invited to audition for all Production Intensives.

For The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, the age range is 8–20.

What if I have an unavoidable conflict during a rehearsal or performance day?

Contact Deanna Martinez, Education & Community Programs Director, with conflicts for rehearsals. Performance and tech days are non-negotiable. 

Where is the Intensive held?

Production Intensives are held at Seattle Rep or occasionally nearby locations on Seattle Center campus (ex: The Alhadeff Studio at Cornish Playhouse, next door to Seattle Rep). Tech week and performances will take place in the Leo K. Theater at Seattle Rep. Full directions and parking details will be provided after enrollment.

How much do Production Intensives cost?

Tuition for Young Rep Production Intensives is $1,000 (as of July 2026). This includes all instruction, production materials, and access to professional theater facilities. Contact Seattle Rep Education for scholarship and financial aid opportunities.

Are scholarships or financial aid available?

Yes. Seattle Rep is committed to access and inclusion. If cost is a barrier, we encourage families to inquire about financial aid options. Contact our Education team for more. 

Do students need prior theater experience?

Prior acting experience is helpful but not required. Our Production Intensives are designed to support students at a variety of skill levels and emphasize growth through collaboration, training, and performance. 

What will it be like to be in a performance of a Production Intensive?

Students perform on Seattle Rep's professional Leo K. Theater stage with full sets, lights, costumes, and an audience, mirroring Seattle Rep’s professional production standards. Check out our past Young Rep production of The Outsiders for a look at a Production Intensive on stage.

Families and friends are welcome to attend. Each Production Intensive student will receive two complimentary tickets for family or friends and a discount code to use any time in the run of Production Intensive performances.
