Production Intensive: The Outsiders

Perform on the Leo. K stage in Seattle Rep's first fully produced youth production of The Outsiders, adapted for the stage by Christopher Sergel from the classic novel by S. E. Hinton.
Participants will train with professional directors and designers, developing acting technique, ensemble collaboration, and performance polish over a 10-week rehearsal process. Final performances mirror the professional model—complete with lights, costumes, and a full audience.

Rehearsals: Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays, Sept. 2 – Oct. 30, 2025 from 4:30–7 p.m. at the Alhadeff Studio at the Cornish Playhouse
Tech Week: Nov. 3–5, 2025 at Seattle Rep
Performances: Nov. 7–9 and Nov. 14–16, 2025, Seattle Rep's Leo K. Theater

About The Outsiders
In a world where loyalty is everything and the divide between rich and poor runs deep, Ponyboy Curtis and his tight-knit group of "Greasers" struggle to find their place. When a violent encounter with the rival "Socs" shakes their lives to the core, Ponyboy and his friend Johnny are forced into hiding, setting off a chain of events that will change them forever.
Adapted by Christopher Sergel from S.E. Hinton’s groundbreaking novel, The Outsiders is a raw and gripping coming-of-age story about friendship, survival, and the fight to be seen. Presented by Young Rep on Seattle Rep's Leo K. stage, this production features a talented cast of young artists ages 13–20, bringing this timeless classic to life with heart, intensity, and unflinching honesty.
Production Intensive FAQ
The Young Rep Production Intensive is a 10-week immersive theater training and performance program for young actors ages 13–20, culminating in a fully produced staging of The Outsiders on Seattle Rep's Leo K. stage. Participants work with professional directors and designers to build acting technique, ensemble skills, and performance polish. The Fall 2025 Production Intensive is open to students aged 13–20 with a maximum of 32 participants. All rehearsals and performances are mandatory. The Production Intensive rehearsals are at Seattle Children’s Theatre Rehearsal Rooms. Tech week and performances will take place in the Leo K. Theater at Seattle Rep. Full directions and parking details will be provided after enrollment. The tuition for the Young Rep Production Intensive is $900 for the full 10-week program. Our Production Intensives are designed to support students at a variety of skill levels and emphasize growth through collaboration, training, and performance. The Outsiders contains intense themes of class conflict, violence, and loss, as well as some instances of strong language and depictions of gang-related tension. While emotionally powerful, the story remains accessible to teens and families familiar with the novel. Yes. While registration secures a place in the Production Intensive (until full), there may be a placement audition to assign roles for performances of The Outsiders. Details on auditions will be shared after enrollment. Students perform on the Leo K. stage with full sets, lights, costumes, and an audience, mirroring Seattle Rep’s professional production standards. Families and friends are welcome to attend.
