Seattle Rep acknowledges that we are on the traditional land of the Coast Salish people. We honor with gratitude the land itself and its innumerable stewards, past and present. We recognize Washington’s Tribal nations, all of the Tribal signatories of the Treaty of Point Elliott, and the urban Native communities who continue to live and thrive in this space. This acknowledgment does not take the place of authentic relationships with Indigenous communities, but serves as a first step in honoring the land we are on and the people and cultures it has nurtured.
Seattle Rep seeks to support and highlight local Native communities in authentic and non-colonial ways. If you would be willing to share your insight or open up a dialogue with us, please contact Education & Community Programs Director Deanna Martinez.
Seattle Rep is working to build and sustain relationships with Native artists, organizations, and individuals through the following:
- Seattle Rep is committed to commissioning Native writers and ensuring Indigenous stories are spotlighted on our stages. In addition to active and pending artist commissions, we have also been honored to welcome Native performers from all over the U.S. through recent productions like The 1491s' Between Two Knees (2023) and Madeline Sayet's Where We Belong (2022).
- We offer free tickets for Native individuals to see all shows in our regular subscription season. To request complimentary tickets, contact the Box Office at 206.443.2222.*
- Seattle Rep provides our PONCHO Forum space for free (when available) for any Native groups. If you would like to inquire about using this space, please contact Patron Services.
- From 2021 to 2024, Seattle Rep hosted an annual Native Artist-in-Residence program, which aimed to highlight Native voices and educate non-Native audiences and our staff through art, discussion, and community engagement.
- We are investing in the wellbeing of our local Native community through annual support of Chief Seattle Club.
If you would like to inquire about or connect with us regarding any of the opportunities above, please contact the Box Office.
*Does not include special presentations. If you are a non-Native individual who needs assistance with economic access to our performances, please contact the Box Office.
