GiveBIG with Purpose: Inside the Artisans, Shops, and Stories of Seattle Rep

You may know about all the phenomenal shows that grace our stages, but have you ever wondered exactly what goes into making great theater at Seattle Rep?

As we count down to GiveBIG, Washington’s statewide celebration of giving on Tuesday, May 5, explore how supporters and donors like you bring art to our stages through employing masterful local artisans, nourishing the next generation of theater-makers and appreciators, and creating a space for our community to gather.

#BuiltBySeattleRepMasterful Local Artists Create Magnificent Sets, Costumes, Props, and More

Seattle Rep is proud to be one of the few theaters in the region (and nation!) to have on-site production shops featuring the work of incredibly talented artisans. This season, our on-site artists created sets, props, and costumes for 6 out of our 7 mainstage shows!

From Young Rep to the Mainstage

Since launching Seattle Rep Studios in Spring 2025, Seattle Rep supporters like you have made our incredible first year of new Education programs possible!

The Seattle Times recently interviewed two of our former and current youth education program participantsSophie Kelly-Hedrick (currently playing River in Appropriate) and Ellie Getman (featured in Young Rep's The Outsiders and currently playing Cassidy “Cassie” Kramer-Lafayette in Appropriate).

Kelly-Hedrick (who went on to attend NYU Tisch) looks back fondly on her time in Seattle Rep Education programs: Whenever I come back to Seattle Rep it feels like coming home.Getman describes her “unique” experience with Young Rep (Seattle Rep's programming for ages 13–20) and The Outsiders as something that “lets you experience what it’s like to work in professional theater.”

As you read more in the full Seattle Times feature know that these incredible opportunities are made possible by you and our community of Seattle Rep supporters!

Opening Doors, Welcoming Community

At Seattle Rep, we aim to open our doors wide and welcome our entire community into the theater. Your support during GiveBIG means we can welcome people like Amy to experience the magic of live theater:

"I want to share how much I love your theatre. When I see a show at the Rep, everyone is invested. From the people at the box office and [ticket-takers] to the bartenders and actors. You can tell everyone loves theatre and is excited to be a part of the show. This is also felt in the patrons. People who have sat with us in the shows are invested too. They seem to be a good audience who care about the story being told. The result is that it feels like a safe space to sit with emotional topics like 9/11 and the Holocaust. And equally fun while people joyously laugh at [The] Play That Goes Wrong. I am a small part of this community, but I am grateful to be a part of it!  Seattle Rep Patron
