Once every decade, a project comes along that offers a unique combination of fascinating subject material, masterful storytelling, and, potentially, a once-in-a-lifetime theatre-going experience for our community.

That was the opportunity we seized upon when we decided to partner with Oregon Shakespeare Festival to produce two plays about President Lyndon B. Johnson, written by Seattle playwright Robert Schenkkan.

Politics are inherently theatrical, and you won’t find a more towering and complex figure in American politics than LBJ. Seattle Rep is honored to be the first theatre in the nation to present both of these plays in sequence. With a cast of 18 actors portraying historical figures like MLK, RFK, Robert McNamara, J. Edgar Hoover, it’s an extraordinary depiction of a turbulent and consequential period in our country’s history.

A project of this scope is unprecedented for Seattle Rep in its artistic size: 18 actors, two original plays, running for a seven week period (a portion of which will be in rolling rep). The financial investment required to see the project to fruition totals over $1.7M, which is well beyond the production costs more typical to our theatre. As such, we’ve launched a campaign to raise $500,000 to help bring these plays to the stage. Projects of this size and ambition require the kind of support that can only be gained through contributions from donors like you.

All the Way and The Great Society give Seattle Rep an opportunity to present a story that recalls a movement in our great history. But more than that, it gives Seattle an invitation to engage in conversation and deep thinking around our society and community today.
