For over 20 years, the Hedgebrook Women Playwrights Festival has proudly supported the creation and development of hundreds of new theatrical works by some of the most exciting playwrights of our time—who have gone on to become Pulitzer Prize, Tony, Obie, Emmy, and Golden Globe award winners, as well as McArthur Genius Fellows.
The annual Hedgebrook Women Playwrights Festival (HWPF) celebrates the work of women writing for the theater. Since the festival’s inauguration in 1998, HWPF has supported the work of an impressive array of women playwrights and served an important role in the development of new plays by women.
Be the first to see new work by Karen Hartman with Neyla Pekarek, Ruby Rae Spiegel, Lily Padilla, Alexa Junge, and Jessica Huang. Hedgebrook partners with regional theaters across the country with strong track records of commissioning and producing new works by women playwrights. This year’s festival partners include ACT Theatre, Denver Center Theatre, Goodman Theatre, and Seattle Rep.
