Meet the 2007-2008 Interns

Ann Thayer Artistic Intern
Ann Thayer

Ann has been in the Northwest for the past ten years, and graduated from The Evergreen State College where she studied various theater forms, traditions, and performance techniques. She also spent time in Paris training in physical theater methods such as corporal mime and Lecoq technique. Ann was attracted to the Seattle Rep because of its dedication to producing "plays of true dramatic and literary worth." Ann feels honored to be working with the artistic staff this season, developing skills that will advance her exploration of theater into what she hopes will be a both professional and 'play-full' future.
Emily ReaArtistic Intern
Emily Rea

Emily is thrilled to be working in the Literary department as an Artistic Intern at Seattle Rep for the 07-08 season! Originally from Northern California, she is a recent graduate of the Applied Theatre Arts program at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia where she received a BFA in Theatre Arts with a focus in directing. She worked in Philadelphia with InterAct Theatre Company, New Paradise Laboratories, Lucidity Suitcase Intercontinental, The Elastic Theatre, PlayPenn New Play Development Conference, and Gas and Electric Arts. Emily is thrilled to have the opportunity to collaborate with professional artists in Seattle and to experience both production dramaturgy and literary management at the Rep! She is delighted to be working within an organization that is dedicated to fostering collaborative skills within a young generation of theatre artists.
Jessica Kurtz Arts Management
Jessica Kurtz

Jessica is originally from Olathe, KS. She received her BA in Theatre in May 2006 from the University of Missouri - Kansas City. While in school, Jessica held a marketing internship with The Unicorn Theatre in Kansas City, MO. In the summer of 2006, Jessica was the Assistant Patron Services Manager for the Creede Repertory Theatre in Creede, CO. Jessica then returned to Creede in the spring of 2007 as the Patron Services Manager. Jessica has also worked at The New Theatre Restaurant in Overland Park, KS which was a great learning experience because it was a for profit organization. Jessica is excited to be an intern at SRT because of its reputation within the regional theatre community. She will be working along side of Managing Director, Benjamin Moore which is an honor because of his time and accomplishments for the Seattle Rep. For now, Jessica will be working all over the Rep and with all different departments, sitting in on board meetings, rehearsals, working on contracts with the company manager and of course, reviewing budgets.
Jacque Gallagher Communication Intern
Jacque Gallagher

Jacque chose the Seattle Rep intern program to start fulfilling her life ambition of sharing her passion for theatre with others, through promotion. Jacque is from Yorktown, Virginia, and a graduate of Virginia Tech with a Bachelors of Arts in Communication and a minor in Theatre Arts and English, 2007. In order to broaden her knowledge in public relations, Jacque was the Community Production Specialist for the Virginia Tech Theatre Arts Department during the spring of 2007, and a Government Relations Assistant at NASA Langley Research Center during the summer of 2007. She is excited for this opportunity to work in theatre and watch the magic of the arts in action!
Amanda Rubeck Costume Intern
Amanda Rubeck

Amanda is originally from Kent Washington. Having just graduated this last spring from Central Washington University with a B.A in Theater Arts, she is super excited to be at the Rep. Since she can remember - costumes, makeup and hair have tickled her toes. Amanda was highly involved in theater while at college, which included positions such as Makeup Designer, Makeup/Wig Assistant and Teacher's Assistant. During her last quarter at Central, she was involved full time with the Children's Theater touring production of Pecos Bill and the Ghost Stampede. She was an actor and tour wardrobe chief. Her future plans are to be an important part of an awesome theater company, do great at what she does, and have a whole lot of fun while doing it! Life could not be any more exciting than it is right now!
Kelly Tavenner Design Intern
Kelly Tavenner

Kelly first discovered her love for lighting design during her freshman year of college at Gonzaga University. During those formative years, she accumulated design credits at the university and small regional level. Kelly received a BA in Theatre Arts in May 2006, and has been on a mission to collect as many diverse experiences as possible ever since. Last year Kelly did this by working with teenagers in Harlem as a member the Jesuit Volunteer Corps. While in NYC, she was able to find a few lighting gigs in the Off-Off Broadway world to keep her theatre muscles working. This year, Kelly is delighted and thrilled to join the PATP here at the Rep in Production Design. She looks forward to building her skills and experience in design, and to learning as much as she can about the other elements that go into regional theatre as a whole. With the supportive atmosphere that the Rep provides for interns, the opportunities for learning are large and limitless. Kelly is excited about what possibilities this experience will bring for her next adventure.
Chris Dewar Education Intern
Chris Dewar

Chris is a recent graduate of the University of Puget Sound, where he studied theater and comparative sociology. Dewar wishes to be a high school theater teacher and director. He specifically chose this internship program because of the many teaching opportunities it offers. Outside of the classroom and internship Dewar is active member of the improvisation and music community in Seattle.
Kirsten McGann Production Management Intern
Kirsten McGann

Kirsten is ecstatic to be the Production Management Intern at Seattle Rep this season (and that's an understatement!). Originally from Utah, Kirsten is a recent graduate of Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah with a B.A in Arts Administration and a minor in Theatre. Some of her roles at Westminster included actress, director, stage manger and producer, just to name a few. At the Rep, she works closely with the Production Management department in overseeing production meetings, creating schedules, and constructing budgets among many other projects. Kirsten is thrilled to have this opportunity and hopes to learn as much as she can from all the creative and wonderful minds at the Rep.
Nate Brackney Scenic Arts Intern
Nate Brackney

Early in Nate's course work at Southern Oregon University (of which he is a recent graduate); he made the choice to ditch the seduction of an acting degree, turning his focus back to the true reason he became involved in theatre. The transition from actor to scene designer/painter was a natural one. Design assistantship's and paint charge work came quickly (Three Penny Opera, The Night Thoreau Spent in Jail and The Philadelphia Story), followed by solo set design assignments for: The Phantom Tollbooth, The Wizard of Oz, The jungle Book and The Water Engine. Capping Nate's time at Southern Oregon University was a 5 season tour of duty with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, where he worked in stage operations, handling set changes-overs, and run crew duties, in the Festivals three theatre, 11 play repertory season. Originally form Yreka, a small town in Northern California, Nate is incredibly thrilled to be in Seattle and to be working and learning at Seattle Rep.
Emily Sershon Properties Intern
Emily Sershon

Although Emily is a native to Washington, she spent the first two years of her academic adventure in Cleveland, Ohio majoring in civil engineering. After transferring to the University of Washington in 2005, she changed her major to drama and hasn't looked back since! Before graduating in March, Emily stage managed, directed, and set designed undergraduate productions, and worked briefly in the UW scene shop. Emily is excited about contributing to the Rep's role in shaping the Seattle community, and learning more about and participating in the collaboration that goes into making theater.
Shellie Stone Stage Management Intern
Shellie Stone

Shellie Stone is one of the stage management interns at the Rep. She has recently graduated from Carnegie Mellon University, where she received a B.F.A. in Production Technology and Management with a focus in Stage Management. Shellie also attended Macon State College in her hometown of Macon, Georgia, where she received an Associate's degree in Arts and Communications. She feels privileged to be one of the Seattle Rep's stage management interns because it gives her the opportunity to further her training as a stage manager in a highly regarded regional theatre. Shellie is finding Seattle to be an excellent community for the arts and arts education, and can't wait to see where this internship will lead her!
Whitney Breite Stage Management Intern
Whitney Breite

Whitney grew up in sunny San Diego until she moved up north to attend California State University, Chico. In May 2007, Whitney graduated Magna Cume Laude, with a B.A. in Theatre and a Minor in English. Currently Whitney is a Stage Management Intern at the Rep where she is excited to have the opportunity to observe and work with skilled professionals in her field. In the few moments when she is not working, Whitney loves to pick up a good book or movie and a great cup of coffee. Thus far Seattle Rep and the greater Seattle area have provided this San Diego girl with a host of opportunities including but not limited to: working with great SMs, directors, actors, and other theatre people, going canoeing, learning that none of her shoes can be called 'water proof', playing kickball in the park, doing karaoke, and generally having a great new experience. Whitney’s advice to anyone thinking of moving up here is to practice the great art of laughter, it makes the gloomy Seattle days much brighter!
Kate Johnson Stage Management Intern
Kate Johnson

After receiving her BA in Theatre this past May from UW-Madison, Kate spent the summer stage managing 5 shows at the Winnepesaukee Playhouse in Laconia, New Hampshire. She hopes that this internship is rewarding, educational, and will serve as an important stepping stone in pursuing a career in stage management.
Susan Vollandt Halsey Technical Production Intern
Susan Vollandt Halsey

Susan Vollandt Halsey is simply in love with being the Technical Production Intern this year. Susie is a native of the 'burbs' of Seattle, however she spent her collegiate years pretending to be a southern belle while getting a B.A. in Theatre at Hollins University in Roanoke, VA. Susie discovered her love for theatre a bit later in life, as a freshman in college, and since day one she has had an interest in the technical aspects of theatre. At Hollins, she gained experience in all aspects of the production process, and served as ATD her senior year. Susie discovered the Rep's internship program by word of mouth from a former intern, who told her about an amazing PATP program. Susie completely agrees. As the Technical Production Intern, she works closely with the Technical Director and Assistant Technical Director, getting a real hands-on experience in professional theatre. Susie is very excited about the opportunity to work with such an amazing and talented group of people and hopes to learn everything possible from said amazing and talented people during her time at the Rep!
