Yes Project: Inspiring young artists and audiences
At Seattle Rep, we know the importance of connecting with a new generation of theatre artists and
audience members, and our Yes Project is our commitment to that.
Our main goal? Find and develop plays for our stages that feature youth protagonists and/or have a curriculum tie-in. And thanks to our Comcast/Ovation $12Tix program, anyone age 25 or under can get tickets to any show for just $12.
This season our Yes Project play is Circle Mirror Transformation. We’re also working with
playwrights Frances Ya-Chu Cowhig and Justin Huertas on two new works through the Yes Project. Read more here.
But we also know that theatre is not just about sitting back and watching. The Yes Project inspires
student playwrights through our Playwriting Project and TeenSpeak program.
Are you as passionate about this as we are? Consider donating to the Yes Project.
Other parts of the Yes Project are:
- Providing student matinee opportunities (including scholarships for schools
that need it) for plays that have curriculum tie-ins or appeal to young
audiences.
- In-school residencies where teaching artists deepen students' appreciation
and understanding of plays before they see them.
- Coordinating with teacher and youth advisory councils to develop curriculum
that specifically suits the needs of teachers. We're dedicated to finding the
best ways to infuse the arts into learning of all types.
Saying Yes
This program has been inaugurated with initial funding by Matthew N. Clapp, Jr. as
a means of sharing his love and early interest in theatre and supporting programs at
Seattle Rep that will attract young audiences. But we need the support of the community
to continue this program. Say YES and please give whatever you can—every penny
counts. No matter the size, your gift will help inspire the next generation of
theatre-goers.
