August Wilson Monologue Competition

Nearly 40 Seattle-area high school students competed in Seattle Rep’s second annual Seattle August Wilson Monologue Competition. The participants performed three-minute monologues from one of August Wilson’s plays at the semi-finals and then ten finalists went on to compete in a public competition held at Seattle Rep on April 3. The three winners of the Seattle competition received cash prizes ($500, $250 and $100) and a trip to New York City to participate in the National Finals on Broadway at the August Wilson Theatre in May 2012.
This year’s Seattle finalists include:
1st place: Xavier Evans, Timberline High School, senior, Fences, Troy
2nd place: Drew Boening, South Kitsap High School, senior, Two Trains Running, Wolf
3rd place: Stacey Ejim, Timberline High School, junior, Gem of the Ocean, Black Mary
Participants in the 2012 Seattle August Wilson Monologue Competition represent the following high schools:
- Lakeside High School
- Tacoma School of the Arts
- Timberline High School
- The Northwest School
- Liberty High School
- Kentlake High School
- Roosevelt High School
- South Kitsap High School
- Garfield High School
