Do you offer “January Term” or Interterm internships?
No.
Do PATP internships pay?
Yes, there is a small stipend paid weekly.
Are there directing or acting internships?
No, we do not offer internships in either of those areas. However, both of the artistic internships
include participation in rehearsals, occasionally as assistant to the director.
I’m not available for part of the standard 30-week contract period, can I still do an internship?
Starting dates may vary from internship to internship and depending on the season, so please
ask about the timeline for a specific internship if this is a concern. But generally intern
contracts are for the full 30-week season.
Can I talk to current interns about their experiences at the Rep?
Yes, email
interns@seattlerep.org
and we can put you in touch with one or two of this year’s interns. Don’t worry
if you don’t get an immediate response—it just means we’re busy, not
that you’ve been ignored.
Will I be able to have a second, part-time job?
Maybe. Work schedules are different depending on the type of internship. A few of the
positions have fairly regular work hours that do allow for evening jobs, but others,
like stage management, have shifting schedules that differ according to a play’s
production phase.
Are there certain things I really need to have done to be a good candidate for the PATP?
All interns should have a strong interest in a career in not-for-profit theatre and generally
have completed a college degree program. But we don’t have a checklist of qualifications
we expect—just tell us what you’ve done that you think makes you a good candidate.
Who should I ask for my letters of recommendation?
Letters of recommendation should come from people who can speak to your abilities related to
the area where you would like to intern. These sources may be professors, supervisors, or
another type of qualified person.
Do I need to send a portfolio with my application?
No, if we need to see your portfolio, we will specifically request it after reviewing the rest
of your application.
Should I expect to receive a confirmation that Seattle Rep received my application?
Yes, we will email you or send a postcard.
When should I expect to hear back about my application?
All applications must be postmarked by March 15. Supervisors usually schedule interviews with
their top candidates by March 30 and make offers by April 15. Rejected applicants will receive
a letter in May.
Can I get academic credit for this internship?
If interns wish to receive academic credit for their internship it is the intern's responsibility
to make arrangements with the sponsoring institution. Academic credit is up to the discretion of the intern's college or university. Seattle Rep will
provide the sponsoring institution any necessary reports or evaluations.
